The FE Fractalist of the Month for June 2003 is: Fractal Tiger
Please tell us about you and your family
My husband, Paul, and I have been married for 32 years this past Feb.
We have 2 children Joe who is 25 and Jackie who is 21. I'm expecting my first Grandchild in September this year.
We live on about 60 acres in West Virginia. Our land is surrounded by 3 hills so we escape a lot of bad weather here. In fact, I tell folks I own half of a mini-mountain.
I love it here and think I'd like to be buried on the land so I'd never have to leave it. In winter we can see deer grazing in the meadows and in summer we have a pair of red tailed hawks that nest on the hill behind the house. We've owned a welding shop, a trucking company, a conveinence store, a video arcade, and traveled with carnivals across the USA.
Tell us about your interests and hobbies
I love to read, and write sometimes for my own pleasure. I keep a sporadic journal for ideas for my writting. I enjoy the interaction of the FE Users group and love the Fractal Explorer porgram. I hold a black belt in Shitoryu Karate, but am sorely out of practice, these days. I love Dragonball Z and most anime, an interest that my son and I have in common.
Tell us why you picked your nickname if you have one?
FractalTiger is a carry over, or at least the Tiger part is, from college. I have an Associates degree from Western Piedmont Community College in North Carolina. While a student there I used tigerldy as my login on the computers at school. The fractal part is from my participation here at the FE Users Group.
If you had one wish what would it be?
I suppose it would be to be able to write children's stories for publication someday and be able to make a pitance from it.
What movies, books, songs do you like?
I love the Matrix films and the Tolkein movies both animated and live action. I read Peirs Anthony's Xyanath stories and have collected most of them. I enjoy stories where cats are a main character, too. Music tends towards the old rock and roll of the 50's and 60's, but I enjoy good Southren Gospel, too. I think my favorite song of all time is,
"The Crusader's Hymn."
How long have you been using Fractal Explorer?
It's been just about a year since I started using FE. The strange part is I came across the link from a group that uses Terragen, a program that creates photo realistic landscapes. Just a week or two ago someone on our group mentioned the link for Terragen. I guess truth is stranger than fiction.
Why did you join FE Users Group?
I joined at first to learn how to use the program, and have stayed for the great friendships I've found here. I've even been privledged to help with the site creating the monthly screen savers for the group.
What is your favorite type of Fractal?
I suppose the ones that are simple to work with. Basically the Mandelbrot and Newton, but I've found some interesting images in all the formulas we've worked with.
